  • Increasing historical literacy about Lincoln for young people
  • Encouraging research, scholarship, and increased understanding of Lincoln
  • Leveraging the bicentennial for discussion of bicentennial themes of freedom, democracy and equal opportunity; serving as a catalyst for conversation and engagement of diverse perspectives
  • Creating a lasting legacy of Lincoln themes and contributions to endure beyond the bicentennial

The Process

To be eligible for an endorsement review, please complete the Application for Endorsement by the Rhode Island Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.  Email is the preferred method of receipt.  Please name your file according to the project's title or organization name and email all application materials to Sue Stenhouse.  If you are unable to email it, you can fax your materials to (401) 222-8094.  Due to delays in the e-mail system do not mail your materials without contacting us by telephone at (401) 222-2389.

Your application will first be reviewed by RI ALBC staff for completeness and appropriateness to the RI ALBC mission. If appropriate, it will be referred to one of the RI ALBC’s program committees. If the application is recommended by the committee, it will be considered by the Commission. Depending on when the application is received, the review process can take several months. Please keep in mind the Commission meets on a quarterly basis.

After receiving an endorsement, applicants will be asked to submit an evaluation of the endorsed project after its completion.

Funding Limitations

The RI ALBC does not provide funding for endorsed projects.  RI ALBC program staff is available to offer suggestions for possible funding opportunities offered through other agencies, foundations, or organizations with an interest in Lincoln.
